Day & Night

I was lucky enough to be production designer on this great short film created and directed by Teddy Newton. It is the short that will be shown before Toy Story 3 (opening June 18th in the USA) so get to the theater early and don't miss it! I am very excited that the public will finally get to see it because it's unlike anything Pixar has produced before. Working on this film was one of the best times I've ever had, which is saying a lot because I’ve worked on some really great projects (like the academy award winning UP!). I can't wait!

Oh and P.S. It's not about a dinosaur!

hmm i am definitely interested, a story about characters made up of day and night is very creative. I'll be there with my kids day one, good luck!

hee hee, yes, that dinosaur/boy thing's sure be creating a lot of hubub.

Further speculation on that aside, this looks quite clever and possibly abstract; whether it's going to be 2D or CG (it'll be REALLY interesting to see how they might handle this in the latter), it's nice to see Pixar's continuing to challenge themselves.

I can't wait! I'm blown away by the uniqueness of the look and story.

It was nothing short of amazing to be able to work with you on this Don, even the little bit I contributed. I learned a ton and feel so lucky to have had such a wonderful opportunity.

Hope all is well,

Ty

So, fill us in: based on the promotional image, is it going to be a 2-D short or a CG short?

I can't tell.

Congrats Don. I had no idea Pixar would do traditional!(*with a little 3D)

It certainly has a beautiful "retro" feel to it. I'm sure alot of animation buffs(*including myself) will love the esthetics(*and story) of this short.

Are there more images to tease us with?? Is this traditional direction something Pixar is willing to do more of??

Please reply to my Flickr page if you can.

Thanks and congrats again! :)

Thanks, I'm not really authorized to reveal any info that isn't already publicly released by Disney-Pixar. Once the film is released perhaps I would be allowed to show more.

Congrats on designing the short, the teaser clips show a great looking theme.

I've been a keen admirer of your work for a while. It really stands out in an over saturated market.

Saw it yesterday's media screening at The El Capitan Theatre. It is just dazzling, easily the bravest and most sophisticated effort yet. Extremely thrilling to see Teddy Newton's work in full dispaly especially in such an amazing setting.Terrific job Don!

I saw this along with Toy Story 3 this weekend.

It was wonderful! A great, clever way to marry the old with the new.

We are very upset as we are working on a similar concept for a short film (not using night and day though) that I know people will now compare it to Night and Day.
